Detailed track description

To take this family-friendly walk from Pila to Alpe Combattissière, you should go to the center of Pila, in front of the Aosta-Pila cable car square. The trail 14l, which leads to the Hermitage, begins as a sunny dirt path for the first 10 minutes, but it soon enters the forest below the Chamolé alpine pastures. The only junction is located a little less than 100 meters from the destination, where the trail splits: the Hermitage is at the end of the path that descends to the left. You can extend your walk from Pila beyond the Hermitage by following the grassy path that leads to Alpe Combattissière, which is an additional 15 minutes of walking. Moreover, you can continue with the downhill trails towards Les Fleures or Charvensod, both of which start from behind the Hermitage. To the right of the Hermitage, trail 102 leads to Alpe Chamolé and its namesake lake. On the left side of the Hermitage, you’ll find a well-kept small meadow, ideal for laying down blankets or mats on the ground.

Continuing eastward on the path that goes behind the Hermitage, you will reach Alpe Combattissière in 15 minutes. It’s a panoramic clearing where you can immerse yourself in the surrounding nature and use the installations in the surrounding meadow to engage with the environment. Along the path, you will encounter two original installations:

  • The “sound telescope” – a wooden cone placed on the ground capable of amplifying sounds. You can also lie inside it and relax while listening to the sounds of the area.
  • Scenic benches – strategically placed to provide different perspectives of the landscapes.
