Detailed track description

This trek starts from the Pila-Gorraz car park, where you can refill your water before starting the walk. Take the path 22/23 on the right towards Grimondet. The path is surrounded by woods and rises gently for about 1.7km, rising only 50m, then becoming slightly steeper but never challenging. The woods continue to accompany the itinerary on the right side, while on the left side a large alpine pasture opens up where it is easy to meet numerous grazing cows. After almost an hour’s walk, you reach the stables of Alpe Liautaysaz, the crossroads of paths 22B and 23B. At this point of the route, a table and a fountain are available for walkers, perfect for a refreshing break. Keeping left along path 22B, you climb further until you reach the Alpe Grimondet alpine pasture. From there, the view opens up onto the surrounding mountains and the city of Aosta. 400 meters further on, the itinerary takes us alongside a group of abandoned stables along a final stretch of gentle ascent to the Grimod chairlift departure. Keeping left at the chairlift, the descent begins, after 5km of ascent which, as already mentioned, was never too challenging, first light then increasingly rapid, crossing woods alternating with more open spaces from where you can admire Pila from above. Along the descent you will also find the various entrances to the MTB trails, both XC and DH and flow. A final stretch crosses the woods and then arrives at the Gorraz car park, in less than two hours from the start. The complete itinerary is just over 7km long.
