Description:

This is a comprehensive and multi-stage hike that rewards adventurers with breathtaking panoramic views along an aerial and occasionally moderately exposed ridge following trail 23. From Pila, the trail ascends to Grand Grimod along well-marked dirt roads. If you prefer to save your energy and skip this initial climb, you can easily take the Grand Grimod cable car instead.

After passing the Lo Baoutson Restaurant, the trail leads past the Grand Grimod Alpine pasture (Alpe Grand Grimod), which marks the official start of the loop. Continuing uphill along a dirt track, you will climb to Capanna Arno at 2,662 meters, a mountain bivouac shelter nestled on Punta Cuis.

From the shelter, follow the ridge path along trail 23 to Punta del Drinc, the second spectacular viewpoint on this trek. Walking along the crest offers a dramatic double perspective: on one side, you can admire Mont Blanc and the jagged peaks overlooking the Aosta valley; on the other, the striking silhouette of Mount Grivola dominating the Cogne side.

Once past Col du Drinc, follow the fork marked as trail 23b to descend back to the Grand Grimod Alpine pasture, closing the loop. From here, simply retrace your steps along your original ascent path back down to Pila.
